Artist Statement of Purpose
Serena Lizette Ornelas is a multi-disciplinary artist based in El Paso, Texas. . Serena's work is heavily invested in critiquing current day structures and the human condition through a nostalgic, feminine lens and sometimes satirical tone.
Serena's work is primarily concerned with prodding mundane conventions and questioning the verging power dynamic in current day America. Serena works mostly in 2d media and is interested in Tromp L'oeil (trick of the eye) reproductions on hand cut wood cut outs, along with traditional painting and drawing. Serena has shown at multiple art galleries mostly in and around the West Texas Area.
Serena has also notably shown and co-facilitated events at the palace of fine arts in San Francisco, California and exhibited for Art Basel in Miami, Florida.
Serena was awarded a fellowship at La Mecha Contemporary where she has exhibited her current work focusing on themes of "Bubblegum Dystopia". Serena's current studio practice finds its home at El Paso's Art association.
